BMW M3 E46 SMG 2 - PHOENIX YELLOW - LOW MILEAGE - HARDTOP - NO RESERVE!!!
The hottest 444bhp version of the A5 coupé range closes in on the BMW M3
The BMW M3 carries possibly the most famous single-consonant, single-digit car name in the world – but just because a car wears the famous badge it doesn’t mean it gains automatic access to the league of superstars.
Question is, what kind of M3 is on sale today, and is it still worth buying with all-new, next-generation models now on the not-so-distant horizon?
The best everyday M3, with the same breadth of performance as the coupé
Hardcore M3 GTS possesses a singularity of purpose that is utterly intoxicating
Electronic dampers are an option. The last M3 to have them was the original E30 model,
The M3 is not a blunt instrument. There are layers of sophistication and it will prove a thrilling companion,
One followed in 1993, then another in 2000, and then a fourth-generation M3, which is what we test here in coupe, saloon and convertible forms. Those with long memories will recall that the 1993 3.0-litre M3, the successor to the great original, was lambasted for being too soft and in possession of poor steering. Initial reports suggest that type E92 might again be too anodyne to do justice to the M3 badge.
Naturally aspirated V8 produces 414bhp and will launch the M3 to 60mph in 4.7sec,
It could be the ultimate compact rear-wheel-drive high performance car
The first ‘E30’ M3 was built in small numbers to legitimise its appearance at circuits around the globe, but such was the popularity of the concept – high power, low mass and a small footprint on the road – that the company was forced to consider a replacement.
In concept, the M3 is much closer to the old M635 CSi, an extremely sporting everyday coupe,
The M3 name was born out of the company’s motor racing activities, but along the way its reputation has endured a bumpy ride. Today it may be regarded as a de facto performance superstar, but there is plenty of proof in the car’s history to suggest that the men and women from Munich haven’t always been able to hit the spot.

Carbonfibre-reinforced plastic roof claims a reduction of 22kg. But this is over a car fitted with an electric sunroof,
The beauty of these front-engined, rear-driven monsters is that they are so amenable to all types of driving,
The new M4 is powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-litre straight six engine that puts out 425bhp and 406lb ft

+ 2016 BMW M3 and M4 Priced: Costs a Bit More, Comes with a Bit More - Car News
The M3 GTS and the M3 GTR also have some similarities. They both have adjustable suspension and rear wings, along with racing seats and the same types of trim that the GTS shares with the CSL. Although the CSL came with special wheels, the GTR rode on the same 19″ factory performance wheels. The GTR still had upgraded cross-drilled brakes, like the CSL did, and much like the GTS does today. The only difference is that the E46 M3 had standard non-cross-drilled or slotted brakes, unless it was a CSL, GTR or ZCP model. The E90 series M3s all come standard with cross-drilled brake rotors.
So with BMW bringing out the new E92 M3 GTS, I thought to myself, “Well, here’s the closest thing to a CSL we’ll see from …
The M3 GTS and the M3 CSL have a lot of similarities. They both come standard with lightweight CSL wheels, of which the CSL was the first BMW to get. Both cars also come with a carbon fiber roof, racing seats with racing harnesses, stripped out interiors (no radio, air-con, etc.), revised suspension, brakes, aerodynamics and engines and paddle shift gearboxes. The CSL could, however, be outfitted with stereo and air-conditioning… The GTS also comes without a back seat, whereas the CSL came with two racing style bucket seats in the rear.
The BMW M3 CSL is the closest incarnation to what is arguably the best performance car BMW ever produced both on the track and the road – the first generation M3. With only 1383 M3 CSLs ever produced, values can only go up.
The CSL was a much different story for BMW, on the other hand. It was built as a more tuned and special version of the E46 M3. It wasn’t a racing car, but it was meant for the track and less so for the street. It was quite a bit more than the standard M3, but then again, it was quite a bit more of a car. Gone were the fog lamps, gone were the seats, air-con, stereo,  rear glass, and so many other things. One big thing that went that should have been kept was the manual transmission. It was replaced with BMW’s SMG II transmission… Ugh.

For some reason I think most of you guys are claiming to own M3's so cut the bull because I was racing my M3 last night & its still standard & I kicked cars with chips & Turbo's 0-200 in that thing is like nothing, gather your information before preaching about what you don't know
The e46 M3 is faster then a z06 c5. Simple do the math. its 3050lbs. Underrated 360hp with only a stock Inline 6 motor. The CSL M3 3.2 L S54 motor is still the most powerful i6 N/A production motor out. Just an M3 motor with cam/intake. High compression 11:5:1 an cast Iron strong. The specs are all from Wikipedia. Check it. BMW also makes the motor for the mclaren F1 former faster car in the world. Still the fastest N/A production car in world. s70/2 v12 with 627bhp all motor.
florin 1 year ago i have a m3 e46 and i liKE 0-100 in 4.8 and 0-200 in 16.8 but i think those are CSL specs i think corect is 5.2 and 18.2 most optimistic owners are saying 5.0 please respond thank you
Best moddable car ever. Best sounding straight-piped exhaust, hands down apart from the VRA CGT. 1046rwhp with a simple $25k turbo kit and some new cams, intake and other stuff. It also looks superb when you lower it and put some 19's on. Definitely, IMO, best M3 ever.
this numbers was reached by auto motor und sport in a test in 01/2003 were they tested the the M3 with 18" wheels unfortunatily they have not the data of such old test online anymore :/
That may be true, but like i said, ALOT of people, Whithin those 3 countrys will not know the difference, u have torque/Nm u have lbs/kg u have Kw/Bhp/Ps, but no 0-60mph/0-100kmh? and alot of people come from those nations who are on this site, thats why you should put them, also most care that are newly added always have the 0-60mph times added instead of the 0-100kmh time added, do you not go everyday without getting the 0-100kmh time mixed with the 0-60mph time? so if you have both metric And omperial times listed with the other stats you should put them in the performance stats as well.

Ha-ha! There is NO way in hell the E46 runs 0-124mph (0-200kph) in 16.8 secs when the new 09' Porsche Cayman S takes 17 seconds! The Cayman S (2009+) runs the ¼ mile in 12.7-12.9@110-111mph but is somehow SLOWER (17.0 vs. 16.8) to 124.xx mph (0-200kph) than the E46 M3?? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry not going to happen.
my friend have a 530d with software 280hp and he race a m3 e46 and win! is this normaly
In just under a year, we logged 25,830 miles on our Austin Yellow 2015 BMW M3. That’s an impressive amount of miles under my watch, since I live only 3 miles from the office, but I had a lot of help. I loaned the vehicle to various staff members when I was out of the office traveling. Jason Udy made several road trips to Salt Lake City, Utah, and found winter driving an M3 over the San Gabriel and Wasatch mountain ranges to be a cool breeze—so long as common sense and Pirelli Sottozero Serie II winter tires were utilized.
For local trips, I most often handed the keys to trusted online producer Carol Ngo for her 60-mile round-trip commute from L.A. to Orange County. Her take on living with the M3 echoed my own general sentiments and those of other staffers: “The color took some getting used to, but over time, I learned to love it; it definitely stands out from the rest. Aside from the brakes and squeaks, I loved driving it on empty highways, ripping along in Sport+ mode. It sounds pretty damn beefy. All my friends loved it, too; they just enjoyed being driven around because the back seat is pretty roomy. I fit my whole bike in there without having to remove my front wheels.”
,” our resident track assassin Randy Pobst needed a fast five-seater to demonstrate oversteer to a “studio audience.” Filming took place at the gorgeous Atlanta Motorsports Park in Georgia, more than halfway to BMW’s headquarters in New Jersey, so we said our goodbyes and strapped the M3 to a trailer headed east. After his shoot concluded, Randy kindly sent these notes:
