According to the site, the new 2015 BMW X6 starts casually at $60,550, including the $950 destination charge. For that, the X6 life starts with the sDrive35i model, meaning rear-wheel drive only and the brand s venerable 3.0L TwinPower turbo inline-six good for 300hp. Should those in more temperate climates require xDrive all-wheel go-power, that ll require an additional $2,300 from the wallet.
The 2015 BMW X6 is here for the second generation and the Roundel just published the official pricing details after launching the online configurator.
All receive a ZF-sourced eight-speed Steptronic automatic and standard iDrive. Should you want the M Sport Package for the X6 M wannabe-just because the X6 M has yet to be revealed-an additional $3,500 is required on the final invoice. Need Jarvis to help you with driver aids consisting of a backup camera and a heads-up display? Don t forget to tick the options box for the $1,400 Driver Assitance package. But if you dolly up the full beans for the X6 xDrive50i, the Driver Assistance Package comes standard.
The next level up is the X6 xDrive50i with xDrive as standard. Under the hood, like the X5, sits a 4.4L TwinPower V8 with twin-turbo goodness to provide a lofty 450hp. You ll need $73,850 and your signature for the keys to that, kind sir/ma am.
BMW Remaker went to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to test drive the all-new 2015 BMW X6, the second-generation Sports Activity Coupe
Employing ultra-high-strength steels, and the use of thermoplastics in the side panels, aluminium in the bonnet and magnesium in the instrument panel support, all help to reduce the car’s weight. Overall, the significantly expanded standard specification of the new car compared to its predecessor has not, therefore, led to higher numbers on the scales. In actual fact, given identical equipment levels the new BMW X6 would actually be up to 40 kilograms lighter, depending on the model.
The line-up of engines available from the December 2014 launch of the new BMW X6 (fuel consumption combined: 9.7 – 6.0 l/100 km [29.1 –47.1 mpg imp]; CO2 emissions combined: 225 – 157 g/km) consists of the latest-generation V8 developing 330 kW/450 hp for the BMW X6 xDrive50i, a 190 kW/258 hp six-cylinder in-line diesel engine for the BMW X6 xDrive30d and another straight-six diesel with three turbochargers and 280 kW/381 hp in the BMW X6 M50d. Ensuring that the noticeably increased performance of the new BMW X6 is accompanied by an up to 22 per cent reduction in average fuel consumption are BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, the standard-fitted eight-speed Steptronic sport transmission, extensive BMW EfficientDynamics technology, weight-saving optimisations and enhanced aerodynamics. In spring 2015 the BMW X6 xDrive35i (225 kW/306 hp) and BMW X6 xDrive40d (230 kW/313 hp) will be added to the model range.
The success of the intelligent lightweight design techniques applied in the development of the body structure for the new BMW X6 can be seen in the car’s fuel consumption as well as its agility in the hands of a sporty driver. Measures such as the considered use of high and ultra-high tensile as well as hot-stamped steels lend the body improved torsional stiffness compared with the predecessor model and increase the strength of the safety passenger cell.
Just because you lug a family around, it doesn’t mean you cannot enjoy the style, sporty drive, and fuel economy of a coupe. You don’t even need a family to enjoy the X6. You can explore with your favorite person sitting next to you in the passenger’s seat. The BMW X6 completes the BMW X Series family, and we saved the best for last. The coupe-like BMW X6 is a midsized crossover SUV that comes with all the creature comforts, style and smooth drive that’s made this carmaker one of the most respected luxury brands.
The BMW X6 also offers best-in-class aerodynamic design. Air Curtains, the Air Breather system, air deflectors on the front wheel arches and a range of other detail improvements reduce the drag coefficient (Cd).
Along with the additional ECO PRO mode functions, the new BMW X6 also comes with many other BMW EfficientDynamics features. These include Brake Energy Regeneration, Auto Start/Stop, on-demand operation of ancillary units, Electric Power Steering, and a variety of weight- and drag-reducing features. Along with other measures, use of ultra-high-tensile steels in the body structure, thermoplastics in the front fenders, aluminum in the hood and magnesium in the instrument panel support all help to reduce curb weight. Intelligent lightweight design also means that the increase in standard equipment compared with the previous model does not translate to increased vehicle weight. The curb weights for the new X6 xDrive35i and X6 xDrive50i are both reduced compared to their direct predecessors.
The ongoing evolution of the Sports Activity Coupe concept has enabled the new BMW X6 to offer an even broader variety of qualities than its predecessor. Enhanced dynamics go hand in hand with improved efficiency, the vehicle’s sporting prowess and versatility have been optimized, as have ride comfort and safety. The cabin ambience has gained in luxury and interior functionality which has also been taken to the next level. Much of the credit for this eye-catching progress goes to the targeted advances in chassis technology made with the new BMW X6 and a body structure rooted in the principle of intelligent lightweight design.
The new BMW X6 is fitted with Electric Power Steering including Servotronic speed-sensitive power assistance. Meanwhile, Active Steering – available as an option – also adjusts the steering ratio to the car’s current speed. This reduces the steering effort required for low-speed maneuvering, for example, and provides precise responses and clear feedback at high speeds. The electromechanical parking brake with Auto Hold function is again standard on the new BMW X6.
Chassis packages tailor sporting responses and comfort levels to customer requirements. Individual requirements in terms of ride comfort and sports performance can be fulfilled with the chassis options and packages available for the new BMW X6. Dynamic Damper Control and air suspension with automatic self-leveling for the rear suspension is available as a stand-alone option. The electronic control system adapts the car’s damping to the road conditions and driving situation at hand. Adaptive M suspension, which is an optional upgrade with M Sport, offers the same functionality. Activating SPORT or SPORT+ mode delivers particularly firm spring and damper characteristics.
All models in the new BMW X6 lineup feature a standard eight-speed Steptronic sport automatic transmission, whose high internal efficiency, precision and short shift times help to improve both efficiency and responsiveness. The transmission offers a “launch control” function, a high-precision traction control system which allows engine power to be translated as efficiently as possible into road speed when accelerating from a standstill.
Naturally, the new X6 is not just about updated visuals. The vehicle is also about 20 pounds lighter than the outgoing model, which is a big deal when you consider its increased overall length and width. Awkwardly enough though, the wheelbase is now shorter at 76.1 inches.
The BMW ConnectedDrive systems fall into two categories. The driver assistance systems provide important information about the current driving situation which, among other things helps to improve the driver’s focus on the road and traffic. They also assist drivers in a variety of driving situations. The second category of systems comprises services and Apps, which offer a host of different functions. Via a mobile phone or internet connection, these functions supply information and entertainment services to support a driving experience which is safe, comfortable and engaging. The standard iDrive system with Control Display, and favorites buttons provides intuitive, low-distraction operation of these functions. It includes a 10.2-inch central dashboard display and a center console-mounted touchpad Controller with touch-sensitive interface for inputting numbers and characters.
The combination of a double-wishbone, double-pivot front suspension and the proven integral rear suspension, patented by BMW, underpins a blend of sporting agility and impressive ride comfort that none of its rivals can match. Further improvements have been made in various areas, including the car’s directional stability, the friction coefficient of the wheel bearings, tire noise and weight, which has been reduced by 4.4 pounds on the front suspension alone.
The rear cabin compartment got a few nips and tucks as well. The outer seats have a distinct individual seat appearance and seem more comfortable than before, while the center armrest offers larger storage compartments. The contrast stitching and the Pearl Gloss Chrome accent strip on the knee pads is another cool and unique addition to the X6. Once the rear seat backrest, which comes in a 40:20:40 configuration, is folded flat, the vehicle s storage capacity increases from 20.5 cubic feet to up to 53.9 cubic feet, a slight improvement over the previous model.
Dynamic proportions and flowing lines reflect its sporty, agile handling on the road. The muscular and robust aspects of the vehicle’s design point to its versatility and appetite for action off the beaten track. At the front of the vehicle, the X-shaped contour lines of the bumper, the matt-silver underbody protection, the particularly powerful design of the BMW kidney grille and the arrangement of the twin circular headlights along front LED foglights are the most prominent signature features of a BMW SAV. The large headlight units reach all the way to the BMW kidney grille and extend outwards well into the fenders. Sweeping chrome inserts and the prominently three-dimensional design of the lights underline the sophisticated character of the standard Xenon headlights. Optional Adaptive LED Headlights can be specified for the new BMW X6.
The 2015 BMW X6 is a five-passenger crossover with coupe-like styling. It is available in rear- or all-wheel drive depending on the powertrain chosen. BMW touts the X6 as the world’s first “Sports Activity Coupe” with its tall stance, high seating position and coupe-like roofline.
Two turbocharged engines are available in the 2015 BMW X6: a 3.0-liter I-6 with 300 hp and 200 lb-ft of torque and 4.4-liter V-8 rated at 445 hp and 480 lb-ft (up from 400 hp and 450 lb-ft from the previous generation). Both engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, and the I-6 is available in rear-drive configuration. Although acceleration is strong with both engines, as you’d expect, the V-8 makes passing and merging a breeze thanks to its torque. While handling is good for such a large car, the 2015 X6 is “at heart a highway cruiser” with a comfortable ride even with the large 20-inch alloy wheels.
The Driver Assistance Plus Package adds a host of safety aids including blind spot warning, 360-degree view camera, and the Active Driving Assistant, which bundles together a host of safety aids including lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and automatic forward emergency braking. Selecting the adaptive cruise control option also adds the Active Driving Assistant.
The optional M Sport Edition is also offered for the new X6 and includes 20-inch M light alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlamps, BMW Individual high-gloss Shadow Line, black fog light surrounds and M door sill cover strips. The interior benefits from electrically adjustable sports seats with memory function, M-specific Alacantara/Nappa leather combination with contrasting stitching, M leather steering wheel with shift paddles, M driver footrest, stainless steel pedals, Aluminium Flywheel black interior strips and the BMW Individual roof liner in anthracite.
