So only 6 months into ownership, last Thursday arvo the car limped back to the dealer shaking and shivering like it s missing a cylinder. I d be lying if I said I'm not disappointed, the 328i was picked over a A4 2.0TQ thinking it will be more reliable. Prefer not have to deal with any potential DSG issues, even though I did enjoy how the Audi drove. Still patiently waiting for an update on the situation from the service guys today. While BMW Sydney was nice enough to loan us a X1 over the weekend, we had to return it today. Apparently loan cars are hard to come by, booked out weeks in advance, so we have to arrange our own transport for a family holiday the rest of this week. Spark plugs, fuel injectors, and petrol contamination were mentioned as potential causes of the misfiring. But the tank of petrol was down to 1/4 before the car started stuttering, so contamination seems rather unlikely. Don t know if anyone s been through something similar? I really hope it s a quick fix, or else I don t even know why we traded in our old car that was running perfectly fine
I purchased a new 2014 28i in mid-November, in Saskatoon, SK, Canada. Four days into ownership, I got a "Drivetrain Malfunction Error" accompanying a very hard/rough start. Limped it to the dealership and they were unable to source the problem. It seemed the error went away on its own. In any event, since then this error has shown at least a dozen times, and twice the vehicle wouldn't start. Subsequent visits to the dealership have identified a power distribution module as being the issue. Replacement of the module "fixes" the problem temporarily. Apparently, the core issue is that water will get into the module, and once it freezes, it causes the unit to fail. An attempt by the dealer to fabricate a cover to prevent water entry was also not successful in stopping the fault from reoccurring. The dealer is pointing to cold weather ( -20 C) as contributing to the problem. They also say that this is not limited to my vehicle, but that BMW is seeing this problem on all X3s in cold climates. However, due to the lack of posts on this topic (especially considering the cold we've had across Canada and the northern US in the last month) I'm a bit skeptical on this point. Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?
Well, my 228i died on Friday night on my way home from work. Cruising along on the freeway and the car died and wouldn't start back up. Drivetrain malfunction - Drive moderately (or not at all, in this case). I coasted to a stop along the side of the road and got started with the tow process (on a restricted access parkway, so that was fun). I had my code reader with me, so while I was waiting, I pulled the code. P142E - Pressure too low in high-pressure system. The car would crank and crank but not start. BMW got around to diagnosing my car today, and I need a new fuel pump control unit. I haven't been able to speak with anyone technical yet, just the service advisor. There was no indication beforehand or at any point in the past there was a problem imminent, so who knows what caused it. Seems entirely electronic in nature to me.
Happened twice yesterday and persisted till this morning on the way to the dealership. Took it to dealer this morning, and it seemed like it registered a Electronic Damper Control (EDC) Fault. The warning is gone for now, so they let me take the car back and the warning hasn't come up again yet. First time this has happened to me. They're going to do a full diagnosis on Tuesday (they ran a "short test" today). We'll see what happens!
The BMW five-series F-10 was introduced in the United States in model year 2010 and continues production today with the Sedan, xDrive and Wagon/Touring variations as well as some hybrids. As with any newly-introduced luxury car, there are some common problems which owners have continued to identify. Some models of this Bimmer have been known to have their drivetrain malfunction, which affects the speed and power of these high-performance vehicles.
So I was finishing up my last minute christmas shopping at the mall yesterda evening and about to go and pick up some food for christmas day. As I pulled out of the parking lot my 2011 550i shuddered and started shaking violently. Then I saw the engine check light with "Drivetrain Malfunction" message come on. I turned off the engine and let it sit for few minutes and tried again but the engine wouldn't start and the whole systems shut down within a minute. Same results each time Got on with BMW Assist and had the car towed to the nearest dealer; of course they were closed and no one on site. Left the car, called for a taxi to take me to the nearest airport for a rental. Now I have to wait till tomorrow before I can speak to anyone at the dealership to find out what happened. I have owned a few cars in the past(2nd 5 series) and I have never have to go through such an ordeal. Here's $75K car with only 17k miles...I'm very disappointed!
So I have 760 miles on my car and suddenly at a stop light, it starts to shudder badly. Then the Drivetrain Malfunction warning popped up on the screen and in the dash. Then I proceed to curse a couple times. Pulled over to the side of the road, I threw it in park and turned it off and SOS'd. Well they were of no help, I guess they can detect how many people are in the car, what airbags go off,...
Hi all, As someone already knows I own a '13 M135i. Since almost day 1, I had the feeling that the 8 speed gearbox is not working properly (sometimes not selecting the correct gear, sometimes changing up a gear when starting to accelerate (highway incorporation, for example), sometimes jerky gear changes). Approximately six months ago, "Drivetrain Malfunction" message appeared on the screen. Dealer told me it was a suspension sensor (I have the adaptative one) but did nothing as it seemed to be a sporadic error. Two months ago I was accelerating nearly full-throttle when the car entered in limp mode and vibrated a lot, no error message. Dealer said it was a knock sensor reading. They changed a spark plug and told me to test it. Last week the car showed again the "Drivetrain Malfunction" message on the screen. No reduced power. I switched off the car and it was gone. Two days after (three days ago) the same message appeared again. Did the same. Yesterday again, but this time, I continued the travel with the message and it seemed that the car was not on limp mode, but the suspension was extremely hard. Very uncomfortable. As I read on some forums, this message can be due to anything. Next week I will take the car to the dealer to try to get it fixed (if they finally manage to know what happens with it) as this week they are very busy (luckily for them I suppose). I am starting to get a little bit upset with the car. I really love it, but as gearbox makes some strange things and it is starting to show these annoying message too frequently, I am getting a little manic. Moreover, the padded bottom of the driver's window is dented of supporting arm. I had my last car for nearly 7 years and it didn't happen. Furthermore, the handbrake lever is already peeling. Car is one year and four months old and almost 30.000km only. I think none of these problems is normal. I am very disappointed about that. It could have been the car of my life...

Upon deployment of the driver's frontal air bag, excessive internal pressure may cause the inflator to rupture. C oncern reported by original owner: "Drivetrain malfunction maximum output not available." BMW repurchased the car from the owner and corrected the concern under the manufacturer's warranty. BMW performed the following repair: "Replaced DDE control unit and engine wiring harness and programmed vehicle." - because these parts were special order parts, therefore, vehicle repair exceeded over 30 days and for that reason previous customer exercise his right under Nevada law to return vehicle back to the BMW. BMW will very commonly repurchase vehicles to ensure a 100% customer satisfaction.
I have to say that overall I am very pleased with my i3. It s living up to what I had hoped it would be, and after a month of ownership I m convinced it was the right electric vehicle choice for me. However that doesn t mean it s perfect. In fact it s far from perfect, but so is every other car out there. As much as I really love my i3, I can probably list a couple dozen things that I would have done differently. Listed below are some of the top things that I m not particularly fond of.
Hi, wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem with their 09 750i. I am new to this board but trying to get some answers as to what might be wrong with my car. I purchased the car with just over 50k miles. It seems that every time I put gas in the car it feels as if you giving the car gas and then letting off the gas. Like the car does not want to go. Then usually the next morning I crank the car and I get the engine malfunction reduced power message. The car skips and sputters. I can turn off and crank again and then it seems to be ok until the fill up. I put premium gas and have tried several different gas stations. The local dealership here does not know what is wrong. At first they said it was battery and then the spark plugs. Which I replaced both. The fuel pump has been replaced as well. Anyone having this problem. Thanks
Got the dreaded " engine malfunction " engine light on today. The car is 08 e92 m3. Bought the back wit 22k on it 3 years ago. It currently has 61k miles on it. Use my code scanner and got codes that said its misfiring on cylinders 1,2,3 and 8. Been searching the forums and found that in some cases, the problem could be the throttle actuator. Read that a lot of older m3s that hit around 60k miles, the throttle actuator goes bad. Also read that it could be the the ignition coil gone bad. Actually I'm really hoping that it's just the spark plugs. I believe the spark plugs haven't been changed since they are "suppose" to last till 100k miles. ( that's what my dealership said) So, the question now is what should I do? I plan changing the sparks plug within a few days. Should I go ahead and buy a new throttle actuator since that will eventually go bad and I have the engine expose from the spark plug change. Should I order a few ignition coil, just in case one or two is bad? Any advice would be highly appreciated!!!! Thanks Codes were - P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303 and P0308
) has gone through this year with massive safety recalls, if such a problem is as widespread as it seems, BMW may already be late in getting in front of the problem. The luxury carmaker says it has not heard of cases where the engine lost power on the highway. The first I heard of this potential problem was Monday, July 19, when I received an email from BMW owner Allison Mangot, who lives in the New York City area. She contacted me after reading a

How does a roughly 4200-pound crossover like the X3 do that? You can thank BMW’s stalwart N55 straight-six, the eight-speed automatic it’s attached to, and the turbocharger hanging off the side. The spread of those eight gears (sixth is one-to-one, seventh and eight are overdrive) makes brilliant use of the 300 horsepower and pound-feet of torque during not wholly improbable stoplight drag races, giving the engine five closely spread ratios to flex its powerband.

All I have to say is Les Cutler is an amazing sales person. Being a sales executive myself I will tell you why I believe the preceding statement to be true. 1. He is readily accessible. My guess is he is your best sales guy. Regards, Mark Czubachowski
This is my story, I got my m5 late August and since then I put 10,800 miles on it in a few months, trip to New York, dc, Atlanta, I have been driving like a truck driver. I live in Greensboro North Carolina but I'm at Atlanta, I park my car go eat and come back turn it back on. Bang it says there's a drivetrain malfunction and the car keeps shaking I turn it off. I turn it on, same problem. I kept it off for a few minutes and turned it on and started driving, the problem went away. I'm worried now whether the problem is going to come back or was this Becuae of the cold weather. It's current 27f. Which doesn't seem that bad compared to northern states. I really can't sleep tonight any advice?
The direct systems use sensors mounted in the valve stems and have a lifespan of six to 10 years of battery life depending on the drive cycles. Inside the wheel wells are the antenna and transponder for the sensor. There are two types of antenna/transponders. The most common transponder is about six by one inch long, the other type looks like a large match box. The antenna/transponder units connect to a control unit that is mounted in the dash or trunk. This unit connects to the vehicle through the CAN BUS.

A BMW has been using electronically controlled automatic transmissions in most models since the late 80s. These transmission systems employ a transmission control unit which controls electrical solenoids to manipulate the various control and shift valves and functions in the transmission valve-body. When the transmission control unit detects a problem that it “thinks” could be damaging to the transmission or engine, it goes into a fail-safe or “limp” mode. In this mode, the transmission will function in reverse normally, but in forward it will operate in only one gear (whether you have the shifter in D, or any of the lower gears). This will typically be 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the model. It will start in this gear and stay in this gear with no shifting. You would experience this as sluggish acceleration and higher than normal engine speed at about 40-mph and above.
Quite a modern take on the old kebab shop - a place that proudly says near the door that they don't sell 'donner elephant feet' or any really dodgy mystery meat - and you know what this is cool because I think Chifafa makes it actually acceptable to eat a kebab in the middle of the day! This place is definitely part of a growing trend of counter service 'restaurants' which have come in the wake of Subway all those years back, where you select your meat, bread, salads etc - but as opposed to being burritos or sandwiches, they have made kebabs very cool from nowhere. I've only been once…

The BMW X3 is a superb alternative for sport sedan consumers who would like just a little more utility using their compact luxury vehicle. Out of the box typical for any small luxury crossover Vehicle, the X3 provides a high seating position, all-wheel-drive traction, solid quality and abundant equipment. However, it is going a couple of steps further with sweet six-cylinder engines and above-average handling one may not expect from an Vehicle.
