The '15 M3 comes with 425 hp. Turbos are becoming more commonplace. So a naturally aspirated straight-six making 240 hp might be thought of as old hat. But not if it's under the hood of an E36 M3. This car is a supporting wall in the house that BMW built. A house that stands for rear-drive dynamics, autobahn-blasting, and unarguable automotive class. And anyway, unless you're a track-day fiend, isn't it more fun to get close to the limits of a car like this than have something way more powerful and never get the chance to really stretch its metaphorical legs?

Active is adding a Prima Elite supercharger kit to the range. The pricing and details are not yet finalized but Tuning Tech FS is already tuning the setup. The Prima Elite and Prima Plus both run 9 psi of boost but the Prima Elite is running E85 fuel instead of 93 octane and meth. The Prima Elite on E85 manages another 31.7 peak wheel horsepower over the Prima Plus with torque gains through the curve.

BMW initially launched the second generation at the 1992 Paris Motor Show, presenting the new model only in a coupe body style. Later on, in 1994, the German manufacturer extended its M3 range with the introduction of both convertible/cabriolet and saloon/sedan versions. The 4-door saloon M3 was initially available with a 3.0L straight-6 engine delivering 286 hp that was later updated to a 320-hp 3.2L unit (1995). The same year, the M3 saloon featured new wheels and a revised 6-speed manual transmission. This model was discontinued in 1998, being followed by both the coupe and cabriolet variants a year later.

Many E36 owners chose to go with a larger HFM in order to increase air flow combining this with larger injectors and a tune. The larger HFMs are also very popular and necessary when installing any type of forced induction like a supercharger or turbo. These HFMs are readily available all over the web from parts companies and BMW specific tuning companies.

As your E36 or any BMW climbs in mileage bushings are one the most regular things to deteriorate. Just like suspension bushings and mounts the rubber starts to dry out and crack allowing for more play in the bushing which is NOT good for performance or general drivability. From the factory the E36 comes with rubber drive train mounts and bushings. The engine mounts are rubber, transmission mounts rubber, and you guessed it, the differential mounts are rubber. These rubber mounts are great for the road because of their longevity and there resistance to transfer drive train noise and vibrations into the chassis and cabin of the car.They may not be the best option if tracking or racing your E36 or other BMW.

You can buy a 12 foot section of the hose for under $100 with clamps, depending what backing plates you choose your looking at the $250-$350 range.This is a relatively cheap modification that you can do in your own garage after work or on a saturday afternoon. It will pay dividends at the track. You will notice the difference after just a few laps. Depending on what pads and rotors you run, the brakes will have a much better inital bite and brake fad will be much less of an issue. If you plan on doing any type of time trials, autocross, or racing brake ducts like this are a neccessity! These combined with some slotted rotors and aggressive race compound pads will improve your E36s brake system buy 10 fold.

So there you have it, changing your drivetrain mounts can improve power transfer, suspension performance, lower the center of gravity and give your BMW a snappier feel when accelerating. These mounts are a relatively inexpensive way to improve your track or race car's performance and durability under the stresses of high performance driving.

are designed around SCCA SPEED World Challenge regulations and have years of street and track testing to prove their performance. Replacing your diff's rubber mounts with this kit will result in a snappier feel when cornering and better suspension performance. This kit will also prevent the front differential mount from loosening up or shearing -- a very common problem with the E36. This is also known as the "diff bolt". The rear two differential cover bushings are slotted to allow for compliance between manufacturing standards as BMW specifies. These bushings are CNC machined from high-grade billet aluminum and Delrin. The kit includes 3 pieces: a Delrin front mount and 2 aluminum rear mounts.
Steel Control Arm
There is not much difference between these options other than weight and price. The aluminum control arms are the lightest and the most expensive. They are approximately 3 pounds lighter than the same steel control arms and run about $319.00 for the pair. The Meyle HD control arms (for E36 3-series) have addressed the common problem with the weak points on the stock E36 control arm bushings with a higher-grade metal in their HD ball joints, similar to those used on the E36 M3. The metal will not wear or fatigue nearly as fast as the standard ball joints. The
E36 Alum Control Arm
As you can see there are some options available for control arms and control arm bushings depending on what you use your car for. If your car is primarily a street car and is occasionally used for an autocross event or a driving school then the stock bushings are fine. If you are more serious about tracking your car and autocross events attending more than 3 or 4 a year then the solid rubber bushings either centered or offset might be the right option for your. If your E36 is dedicated for the track or racing then the ultimate setup would be the aluminum control arms and offset delrin bushings.

to achieve more track, caster, and camber with the offset hole while still being able to street the car. Turner offers these solid rubber control arm bushings (factory equipment on 95 M3) with an offset and centered hole to give you a choice. Either is great for autocross and high performance driving schools. These bushings provide a great middle ground giving your E36 sharper turning and added stability while still achieving that factory ride and steering wheel feel on the road.

In my opinion there are only a few options for control arm bushings for E36 track cars, street cars and racecars. There are the offset and centered delrin bushings, offset and centered solid rubber bushings and the OE rubber bushings. Both of these options are quite different.
Etk Front Control Arm
are a hard compound recommended for frequent track use or racing applications. Delrin is a reisgn that bridges the gap between hard metals and ordinary plastics. Delrin is used in many precision parts that require high stiffness, low friction, and excellent dimensional stability. These bushings are "offset" because the hold where they mount to the control arm is offset to the outside of the vehicle to provide more negative camber adjustment. These bushings provide added stability and stiffness in high speed cornering and more precision at turn in.

Making sure your rear differential bushings are in good shape is critical when tracking your car. Your rear differential bushings can become elongated which creates unwanted plan allowing your differential to move when under load. This shifting between on and off load can snap or shear off the front differential bolt. Since this bolt is threaded into the differential casing its self shearing it off can leave the threaded end inside the diff casing. In this case you must remove the entire diff from the car, drill out the sheared part of the bolt and re tap the hole for the new bolt**. Installing solid differential mounts can eliminate that play and prevent this from happening. There are also some differential braces that can prevent this as well.

Much like the E46 M3, the E36 comes from a time when BMWs were known for incredibly precise and communicative steering and purity of driving. The E36 M3 is a cult hero to many BMW enthusiasts. With a free revving inline-six engine, 5-Speed manual, a limited-slip diff and rear-wheel drive all for under 10k (and in some cases under 5k), the E36 is one helluva deal. So let s go through a few reasons why someone should buy the E36 M3.

The '15 M3 comes with 425 hp. Turbos are becoming more commonplace. So a naturally aspirated straight-six making 240 hp might be thought of as old hat. But not if it's under the hood of an E36 M3. This car is a supporting wall in the house that BMW built. A house that stands for rear-drive dynamics, autobahn-blasting, and unarguable automotive class. And anyway, unless you're a track-day fiend, isn't it more fun to get close to the limits of a car like this than have something way more powerful and never get the chance to really stretch its metaphorical legs?

Their cars are unique in that they're perfectly poised to give you the precision to drive circles around and stop on a dime, and leave enough money in your pocket that you wouldn't need to get out of your car to pick up said dime. All cars throughout their range were equally guilty of this not-so-hidden ability to convert a freeway on-ramp into an instant ear-to-ear grin, although some models were less equal than others.

After reading about that E30 that sold for $58K this morning, I'm curious about whether you guys think the E36 M3 will ever hit the same heights. I could easily see the E46 becoming collectable in the future (last strictly 2 door, naturally aspirated straight 6) and even the E90, given enough time (only M3 with a V8, probably the last naturally aspirated "analog" M3). But it seems like the E36 isn't viewed in the same light by enthusiasts.

The first M3 was based on the E30 3-Series platform and was introduced to Europe in 1986 and a year later to the United States. It staid into production until 1990 and was offered with a variety of motors, including a 238 bhp engine. In a relatively short amount of time, the E30 M3 scored thousands of victories becoming one of the most successful touring machines in history. It had under the hood a 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine with twin-cam four-valve head, with Bosch fuel-injection and rated at 192 horsepower. The only 2850 pound vehicle with five-speed manual transmission could go from zero-to-sixty mph in less than seven seconds peaking a top speed of 140 mph.

The handling is superb, driving dynamics spot on, and overall weight is reasonable. For track days, ditch the heavy Vaders for real sport seats, Koni's, sticky tires and the car is ready to rip. The handling is so good that 240 hp goes a long ways. A Euro 321 hp would be unreal. The USA engine still has good grunt, power everywhere with good low end torque, and always willing to rev to redline. The overall gearing is short, and the car revs quite high at highway speed. The gearing works well at the track however. When looking for used get the best you can afford, and have the cooling system checked!"

Sometime back, the staff at Grassroots Magazine came to Active Autowerke with a BMW 235i in quest of making more power.  With the 235i strapped on the dyno, this BMW measured 292 wheel horsepower in stock form.  With the flip of By Pass Plug, this BMW 235i got 346 wheel horsepower with just the Active 8 Piggy Back installed. M Power and...? This is the 1996 3.2l 321hp (S52B32) version and the 286hp/321hp version are not Germany only they are sold world wide, only the USA recived the 240hp e36 fake M3 and never the true e36 M3... Both US version of the M3 with the S50USB30 and S52USB32 only had 240hp the only different is slightly increased torque from 305 to 320Nm, both engines were based on the M50 and M52 engine of the 325i and 328i and never on the real M3 engine the S50B30 and S52B32

Toujours proposee en 3 carrosseries, la M3 3.2 litres fait a peine evoluer son style qui reste caracterise par une tres grande discretion. Toutes en sobriete, les quelques touches de sportivite ajoutees a la plus rapide des Series 3 E36 n'entament pas son elegance naturelle, notamment en version Coupe qui represente le gros des ventes de la M3. Comment distingue-t-on une M3 E36 3.2 d'une 3.0 ? Voila en fait une question piege, car bon nombre d'exemplaires ne sont plus en configuration d'origine. Nous avons pu nous en rendre compte en cherchant notre "modele photo" pour illustrer cet essai. Neanmoins, ce qu'il faut savoir de facon certaine c'est que le coupe M3 3.2 chausse d'origine des jantes inedites bien que leur dessin soit tres proche des precedentes. Les "M Double Spoke II" (style 39) de la 3.2L fournies en serie sont reconnaissables a leurs 10 double branches plus epaisses mais surtout, elles sont depourvues du moulage "BMW Motorsport" sur la partie centrale qui est aussi plus creusee. Les jantes forgees retsaient cependant en option pour le coupe. La grille de bouclier avant est egalement noire sur toutes les versions (coupe, cabriolet berline). Enfin, dernier point notable, les feux arriere deviennent bicolores blanc/rouge et les clignotants avant et repetiteurs lateraux sont blancs.

BMW initially launched the second generation at the 1992 Paris Motor Show, presenting the new model only in a coupe body style. Later on, in 1994, the German manufacturer extended its M3 range with the introduction of both convertible/cabriolet and saloon/sedan versions. The 4-door saloon M3 was initially available with a 3.0L straight-6 engine delivering 286 hp that was later updated to a 320-hp 3.2L unit (1995). The same year, the M3 saloon featured new wheels and a revised 6-speed manual transmission. This model was discontinued in 1998, being followed by both the coupe and cabriolet variants a year later.

The M3 is the wunderkind of the 3 series, and has been the performance standard in sport coupes for almost 30 years. The first M3 was built to homologate the BMW 3 series for Group A Touring Car racing in Europe based on the E30 2 door coupe, and included aerodynamic body panels as well as upgraded suspension and engine components. It was distinctive with its integrated rear spoiler, larger wheels and special colors. 17,184 M3's were built from 1986 to 1991. The 4 cylinder M3 produced 197 hp, up 94 hp over the standard 318i.

So it was finally time to trade up for some new wheels for my E36 M3. The choice has been years in the making bouncing around from ideas with BBS, Apex, Forgeline, CCW and many many more. I knew I wanted something different but also something that fits well with the now somewhat dated body lines and look of the E36 M3. Obviously style 5s came to mind but they were not unique enough, style 5s are a common wheel choice of many BMW enthusiasts from E30 to E90.
