The Monticello Motor Club is a country club with a racetrack instead of a golf course. Performance car owners in the New York metropolitan area join to take advantage of the reconfigurable road course that features up to 3.6 miles of track, as many as 22 turns, and 450 feet of elevation changes. Automakers have chosen this venue to show off the prowess of such sporty cars as the Cadillac CTS-V, Lexus RC F, and even the gonzo McLaren 650S. While BMW has also been here with the 1 Series M, you would never expect an all-new 7-Series, the brand’s luxury flagship, to tackle the twists and turns of this country club road course. You’d be wrong.
. It was earlier made available in high-end BMW lines such as the i8, but it is now implemented in the 7 series, BMW's own take at the mass-market car. The interior of the car is outfitted with more gadgets, beginning with the dashboard and its pioneering built-in gesture control, which allows you to initiate and take calls, adjust the volume plus an extra gesture that the owner can customize. The entertainment system also includes a touch interface and an embedded Samsung tablet, which could make up for the lack of Android Auto or Apple CarPlay support.
The lineup of the Mercedes S-Class includes a base model producing 455hp with V8 engine, but also powertrains with V12 engine and more than 500 ponies under the hood. And while BMW has yet to announce a hybrid version of the 7 Series, Mercedes already has few plug-in hybrids in the range for the S-Class. However, we are talking about the technological aspect here and here is what separates the 2016 BMW 7 Series from the field.
The front is plush, but the rear gets an uncommon amount of attention, as if the 7 Series were meant to be chauffeur-driven. For starters, only the longer-wheelbase model is imported to the U.S., giving one inch more rear legroom. With the Luxury Rear Seating Package, the seats are heated all the way down to the armrests, and ventilated. The Touch Command Tablet has a wireless hotspot for rear passengers, who might get a massage while they re online. Or they might sign up for the Vitality Program. BMW suggests passengers can engage in active training to revitalize their bodies on longer journeys.
There are two versions of the '16 BMW 7 Series. One is a remarkably agile driver's machine sporting effortless speed and precision dynamics, especially when fitted with the optional rear-wheel steering system. The other is a serene, cosseting luxury conveyance packed to the gills with sybaritic features such as reclining/massaging seats and fragranced ionized air. The funny thing is, they both appear to exist in the same space and time.
With the unveiling of the all-new 2016 BMW 7 Series, the storied marque establishes a new baseline for luxury, safety, performance, and lightweight design. Further, great strides have been made in terms of driving dynamics, passenger accommodations, intelligent connectivity technology, and intuitiveness of operation. Coming to market initially with both rear and all-wheel drive, the new BMW flagship will be offered as the rear-drive 2016 BMW 740i and the all-wheel drive 2016 BMW 750i xDrive when it goes on sale in the autumn of 2015. Traditionally, the 7 Series has served as the debut platform of BMW's leading edge technological innovations, before they filter down into the rest of the product line. This all-new sixth generation BMW 7 Series model honors the convention with a host of technological firsts, all calculated to position Munich's flagship as the pinnacle of full-size premium automobiles.

Like the outgoing car, the 7 Series is offered in both regular and long-wheelbase format. The LWB model is a full 14cm longer than before, while even the base car swells by 26mm to improve passenger space. Width and height are virtually identical, but it’s still the largest series-produced model the Munich firm has ever produced. The long wheelbase rear cabin is visibly larger than before, while there’s a 515-litre boot.
Not only is the new 7 Series the first BMW with a touchscreen, but to activate certain features it doesn’t even need to be touched. The 7 Series has gesture control thanks to an infrared camera positioned in the headliner that detects the position of a hand in a small sweet spot above the shifter. Twirling a finger clockwise increases the volume of the stereo and twirling it counter-clockwise decreases it. Answering a call on a connected Bluetooth phone can be performed by simply pointing at the screen or the call can be ignored by swiping a finger. Two gestures can also be programmed to control a pair of favorite features.
Obsessive attention to detail and an unwavering commitment to creating the pinnacle expression of interior comfort, the cabin of the 7 Series is indulgence epitomized. Embrace the open appeal of the Panoramic Sky Lounge LED roof with the ability to beautifully illuminate the vehicle's cabin, creating an unprecedented ambiance wherever your travels take you. Extravagant comfort is ready to be experienced, whether you're seated in the front seat or the back. A standard WiFi hotspots allows you to steam content from your handheld device directly to the ten-inch entertainment screens.

That, according to AutoCar, will be the drivetrain powering a new trim level, the M750d. It would bump out BMW’s existing tri-turbo diesel engine, and supposedly sport displacement of 3.0 liters and produce “well over 400 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque. It’s notable that American never got the tri-turbo diesel 7 Series, and it’s unclear — if not unlikely — that we’ll get the one with a quartet of turbochargers.

When not behind the wheel of the 7 Series, its owner foregoes any semblance of taxis or subway and helicopters to more distant destinations. So, BMW flew the gathered auto journalists to Monticello by chopper. (Because it can.) Once in upstate New York, those writers could take the standard 7 Series out for a tour around the lush green hills or push the car's performance limits on the racetrack in the special, sport-tuned M editions.
